Check out these micro RC racers!

Just found this site which are selling the coolest and smallest proportional RC planes that  I have seen.

Review and test of the Graupner/JR mx-16s transmitter pack

After waiting for several months (almost a half year) I finally received my brand new radio control transmitter from Graupner/JR wirh english software. This transmitter and receiver is crystal free due to use of digital PLLs (Phase Locked Loops). The software on the mx-16s is based on the wellknown mc-24 which has been around for almost a decade. The mechanical parts are based on a JR frame, so quality seems to be ok compared to the price. Check out the review and field tests of the Graupner/JR mx-16s here.

New video of the small biplane uploaded under the movie section!

Finally managed to show a small movie/video of my depron biplane under the electrical category in the movie section. Crashing the plane like that it is not going to last forever ;0)

Is it a plane? is it a heli?... No it's a Phantom Sentinel!

This airborne vehicle is truly  one of the weirdest I have ever seen.. Patent pending so do not try and copy ;0)

Seem like a modified boomerang to me..

Check the video at: Veratech Aero Corp.

The biggest skyhawk I ever seen!!:

Can't resist to show this story from my old soaring club in NZ. Check out the pictures and movies for your self!

Monster PSS Skyhawk

New Dynamic Soaring (DS) pics:

Just added a few more pictures from my model plane soaring trips in Christchurch, NZ. Even dough the pictures are quite steady, I can assure you that the adrenaline is flowing in your body under moderate DS conditions. Also remember to check the small movie clips under the movie section.

New hotliner movie and pics:

Added a few nice photos and some movies from the club evening. Shows some nice hotliner flybys.

Bipe building finished:

I Finally managed to complete the FOAMe2x  biplane that I have been working on for some time. The wing span of this model is 0.45m and the weight is 93gr. including one Li-Polymer cell. I had a small test flight with this setup, but for some reason there was barely enough power to maintain level flight. So, I added a 2-cell Li-Po battery and this certainly improved the performance.

Image

This made the bipe the fastes rolling airplane that I have ever flown! Torque rolling and knife-edges made almost effort free. The Torque rolling rate whas however very fast due to the small wing span!! Check out the pictures in the Gallery section!

On board the Acrowot:

A new movie is available under the glow category. This is a movie taken from my Acrowot showing Amager faelled and Copenhagen in the background. Pretty tough to take a decent photo of your self as you can see from the movie!

Micro blade fun flight:

A few movies have been uploaded under the movie section (micro blade fun flight).

Soaring Pics from Christchurch, New Zealand:

A bunch of soaring pics from New Zealand, have been added in the Gallery section.

:: My Models -- This page shows a draft overview of my current model hangar.

1. FOAMe2X from 3DBatix

The first model is a FOAMe2x depron model from 3Dbatix. The model has a wingspan of approximately 45cm, and is still under construction. The weight is 93 grams with one 360mAh LiPo cell and 105 grams with two cells. The engine is an Micro Rex 220/3-3200 which weighs 12 grams. The regulator is a TMM0703-3 Expert which is capable of running on 1 LiPo cell and still supply the receiver and servos with power.

Image

The name (trip) origins from the paint job that ended up very bad. I spray painted the model and ended up with a thick and wet layer, so I tried to remove it save weight. This smeared the paint all over the wing with the psychedelic effect as a result. Later I later learned just to let the spray paint stay on since the "wet" of the paint will evaporate and leave the paint, nice and light.

The following picture is taken right before test flying.

Image

The plane is very fragile due to the small dimensions and the missing carbon fibre reinforcement at the leading edges of the wings. This was omitted due to weight constraints. I have finally managed to make a number of test flights, and you may check it out under the video/movie section.

2. Micro Blade from Freeair
The second model is a micro blade from Freeair made completely out of EPP. This model weighs 125 gr. without landing gear. It is a very nice backyard plane as you can see in the movie section (under electrical planes). The engine is an AXI 2204/54 which delivers plenty of trust using two KOKAM LiPo cells with a capacity of 360mAh.

The Trip and the micro blade are shown on the next photo.

3. Extra 330s from Ikarus

Then we have my good old shocky. Do I need to say more.. Well its just a sweet plane with incredible performance. I use an AXI 2208/32 in combination with a 2 cell KOKAM LiPo with a capacity of 640mAh. Plenty of power even at the end of the flight.

Image

The only bad thing about these planes (in my humble opinion) is the weak front, which easily breaks if you land slightly bad.

4. Acrowot from Chris Foss

The next model is one which I have owned for quite a time. Actually I think I bought back in 1997-1998. Its an Acrowot from Chris Foss design ( http://www.rcuniverse.com/product_guide/kitprofile.cfm?kit_id=1730 ).

Its equipped with a 0.50 OS MAX engine (Long Stroke) originating from an outdated heli. Its fitted with a tuned pipe and goes pretty fast with a 11x9 APC prop.

Image

I think I will change to a Bisson muffler (Pitts style), which I think will improve the look beyond the "silly" tuned pipe. I think you will agree based on the next picture!

Image

Furthermore I will change the prop to something more slow-going, since the plane is actually more like a pylon racer in its current setup.

5. Eraser 60 from Canterbury Sailplanes

This model is completely made out of EPP and corflute (tail). I modified the plane to a V-tail design, hopefully giving it a bit more speed for those 60 inch races on the crater rim. I am not sure if it was giving anything, but its the thought that counts. The plane is (of course) very durable and I was very pleased with its perfomance even dough its a beginner suitable model. It seems that if you equip it with carbon wing spars and flap adjustment, you will end up with something quite nice for most types of hang gliding (including DS for fun ;0).

Image

The picture is taken from the John Britten reserve towards the east coast of the South Island (Christchurch, New Zealand).

6. 30" Ultimate Biplane from Foamyfactory.com

I never really got along with this plane. A friend gave it too me when he's hangar was completely full. It had a few weak points already, but I thought why not give it a go. So reinforced and equipped with an AXI motor I took it for some test flights. The plane would do most manouvres quite easy, however it did not want to stay in knife-edge for very long. It just want to roll out when you apply side rudder. This might have been fixed by compensating by the radio, but I do not like that approach. I just love the knife edge manouvre, so of course I was a little disappointed! I have however seen videos of this model performing very nice, so I blame it on the bad condition of this particular old model until I have evidence to say otherwise.
